I am happy to report Skate Buds finished its first summer fitness camp at the East Dallas Boys and Girls Club. Ten great weeks.
I am happy to report Skate Buds created its first Skate Buds Fitness Team. Twelve students showed an extraordinary ability to ride their Skate Buds, so we created a team. And we had our first performance. Shout out Julia and the Marinela Talent School. The Skate Buds Fitness Team performed at the Marinela Talent School Hip-Hop Dance and Arts Festival. Videos and pictures coming soon.
The Skate Buds Fitness Team consists of twelve students between the ages of seven and thirteen. A big thank you to Orrion, Kobe, Mary, Emily, Roger, Ric, Amilra, Juan, Nathaniel, Teth, Darius, and Will. That night those students performed and showed a different skill set. Lol. I saw some things I was not ready for. The students really shined. I was proud of them.
Tiffini asked if Skate Buds would come back for their fall semester activities. Absolutely, Skate Buds would love to.

First, we welcome a new member to the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Team. Brandon Bowie is the first Skate Buds volunteer fitness coach. Brandon graduated and played football at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. Brandon and I go back to high school football at Huntington High School. I was a beast at quarterback. Brandon was a beast at defensive back.
Brandon and I were working out at the 24 Hour Fitness downtown Dallas 3 weeks ago. He asked, ”Do you need a volunteer”? I said, “YES”. So Brandon started with us July 7. The students really appreciated his assistant, and so did I.
The second phenomenon for the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp is that we are in negotiation with Fit For Me Foundation 501(c)(3) non-profit to become a fitness program within their organization. Meaning more room to workout. Meaning more opportunity to get the next generation fit and coach them to stay fit.
The last two weeks have been great for the students. At the Boys & Girls Club we put together the first Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Team. Right now I have 13 students who have displayed an ability to perform on their Skate Buds at a very high level after only 5 short weeks of riding. Wonder what these students are going to come up with next.
Next up, the surrounding Independent School Districts. The Skate Buds School and Youth Organization fundraisers is preparing for launch this fall. Can’t wait. So much opportunity. So much opportunity. Volunteers should email info@SkateBuds.com
Shout out to WorkOut Kid. This 10-year-old student has extraordinary physical and mental ability. We wish for him the greatest success.

Week 3 Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp

I have been using Skate Buds for three years. I haven’t had an entire group of students catch on and ride them this quickly. It was fun to watch. I was amazed, and everyone that watched was amazed.
On Tuesday there were over 50 students, I divided the students into two groups, a functional stretch group and a Skate Buds group. The girls were first up riding Skate Buds. I gave them one Skate Bud each, and we practiced Skate Buds One Skate Push & Glide.
The task I have given myself is to develop the student’s coordination and functional strength ability. In laymen’s terms, turn the students into athletes. Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp is designed to turn students ages 5 and up into athletes. Strong and flexible athletes who can sustain there strength and flexibility for longer periods of time. And because of the ankle dorsiflexion necessary for riding Skate Buds, the ankle, calf, and tibia muscle strength and endurance are coherent.
On Thursday, I had a smaller group of students, 30. I started out thinking I would give them one Skate Bud, but because they asked me repeatedly to use both Skate Buds, I could not resist. The girls got both Skate Buds first. In 30 minutes, 3 out of 15 girls were able to sustain their glide comfortably. A few others made decent progress. The last group was more afraid to fall or they didn’t have enough tibia muscle strength to sustain the ankle dorisiflexion for a comfortable glide. The boys on the other hand got 14 out of 15 to sustain a comfortable glide.
It was a productive two days. I can’t wait until next week. Next week is going to be a short week because of the 4th of July. I will only see the kids on Thursday. Can’t wait.

Week 2 Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Summer Fitness Camp

It seems that I missed the first week of summer camp at the East Dallas Boys & Girls Club. Tomorrow is our fourth official workout and its apparent to both me and the summer camp volunteers, the students want their Skate Buds. I want to teach the students functional stretches and improve their flexibility, but the kids have had enough of that.
There is one thing very clear, to me. The students want to exercise. When presented with the option, the students do not mind exercise, at least at the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp. Each workout has allowed me to observe and build on the things I’ve learned from the previous camps. I am excited about the progress of the camp, the excitement of the students, and their cooperation.
Tomorrow I will take the Skate Buds. The students have been asking for their Skate Buds since the first day I rolled in. They are going to be excited, I am excited for them. I will only give them one Skate Bud to practice the One Skate Push & Glide, to improve functional strength and balance. Of course, I will include core strengthening exercises and functional stretch exercises. But tomorrow will be another piece to the journey. The road to teaching the first generation of Skate Bud heel skaters. I am over whelmed with joy.
Kids health and kids fitness is in great hands with Skate Buds, strap-on heel skates.

East Dallas Boys & Girls Club Week 1

On Tuesday and Thursday I met with the East Dallas Boys & Girls Club for the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Summer Camp. For the first week I had 45 students between the ages of 6 and 10.
The Boys & Girls Club provided volunteers so everything flowed smoother. Big thanks to Christian, Jeffery, Preston, and Mr. Tyrone. Christian and Jeffery are brother and sister. They’re first day volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club was Tuesday. Mr. Tyrone is a retired at 50 guy. If its one type of person I admire, its people who have retired.
On Tuesday we performed the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp pre-test. The test focused on measuring the students muscle strength and endurance with 1 minute push-ups, 1 minute sit-ups, and the standing broad jump. At this time we want to measure student’s improvement over this 10 week period. This means starting with no expectations and a bottom line. Everything from now will be fresh results and fresh content. I will release the pre-test results shortly.
Thursday we began the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp. Focusing to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance. The students began with a range of functional stretches (i.e. high knees, lunges, butt kicks, etc.). Then we focus on coordination with other functional movement exercises (i.e. walking toe touch, jumping jacks, fast feet). Third I introduce the students to an ab circuit to build core muscle strength. We finished the day with static hamstring stretches.
As I discussed the components of the fitness program with the students, it was clear they are more interested to know when they would get to ride Skate Buds. I ride Skate Buds around for the first three weeks, just to tease the students. Its my way of motivating the students to improve their flexibility. Plus I know how much fun they really are. I explained why we are working to increase flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance. I finally was able to get my point across, they agreed to a couple weeks of increasing flexibility and muscle strength only, then they would get their Skate Buds.
It was a great week 1. I saw lots of talent and lots of potential. I’m excited to see what next 9 weeks will bring. They seemed more interested in learning how to get better at the stretches than I imagined. A couple students knew a few yoga posses. Now I will add some yoga stretches. Can’t wait to see what improvements we are able to make.

Skate Buds Promoting Healthy Lifestyles through Physical Activity and Exercise
Posted: May 2, 2011 Filed under: Childhood Obesity, Kids Fitness, Kids Health | Tags: childhood obesity, exercise and fitness equipment, exercise equipment, fitness and kids, fitness for kids, fitness kids, health kids, healthy kids, Heel Skates, inline skates, kids fitness, kids for health, kids health, kidshealth, little gym, obesity, roller skate, roller skates, Skate Buds, skates Leave a comment »In this blog I will educate, to my understanding, the subject of obesity particularly childhood obesity, and further explain why Skate Buds, Strap-On Heel Skates is a great way to reduce and eliminate childhood obesity. Check out Skate Buds on YouTube.
Childhood obesity is a result of an undeveloped human physiology, in my kinesiologist tone of voice. In layman’s terms, a person has to develop his or her human systems and body functions. For example, a person whom has rarely stretched his or her hamstring has, over time, undeveloped his or her hamstrings because of the lack of contraction to that muscle. Results will come in either of two forms (1) injury or (2) limited performance functions.
Childhood obesity is a result of undeveloped human functions and systems. We can no longer neglect gene properties as the rise of childhood obesity persist. Yes, a child that is obese, very likely comes from a gene pool that has undeveloped human functions and systems. In layman’s terms, physically active parents will pass physically active genes. Parents who have undeveloped human physiology will pass genes that are undeveloped. Undeveloped does not mean it can not be develop. It means it hasn’t been developed or needs to be developed further.
How do we eliminate childhood obesity? Further develop human functions and systems. We can start with the physical functions. Obesity is the result of a sedentary lifestyle or a lifestyle which physical function is not priority. Resulting in physical human functions that become undeveloped.
When a person asks me to assist them with there health and fitness goals, as a personal trainer and kinesiologist, the first question I ask myself, which functions or systems of this body are most undeveloped (i.e. muscular, respiratory, nervous system). Not, what did this person eat last night or over the last year.
Although I can, most likely, see it plainly. Once that question is answered, I design and implement a plan that will develop those undeveloped systems or physical functions. Resulting in weight loss, muscular endurance, increased flexibility, a more developed human physiology. Through repetition and over a short amount of time, this newly developed physiology will become your new human physiology.
Its much easier to write about than do. Mainly, because most people are not intrinsically motivated to understand human functions and systems, as I am. Also, I was passed this love for the subject matter through my genes, my mom was a former physical education instructor and track coach. My father was an athlete.
For these reasons, Skate Buds, strap-on heel skates offers the perfect opportunity for moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity or cardiovascular exercise, 30 – 60 minutes, daily. Remember repetition and time is how to develop your human systems and functions. Because Skate Buds are so much fun you can incorporate exercise, increasing heart rate and lung capacity, with fun.
I’ve seen it every Tuesday and Thursday for the last 11 weeks. I have been volunteering at a local Boys and Girls Club of Mesquite, Texas. I have a group of 30 to 50, 5 to 13 year old students. For the first 4 weeks, I began with aerobic style exercise and stretches to increase flexibility and muscular endurance. Week 5, I introduced a new form of cardiovascular exercise to the students, Skate Buds, strap-on heel skates. After the students learned the fundamentals of proper heel skating techniques, the exercise or fun really began. Check out the SkateBuds YouTube Channel to see our progress.
I’m calling the fitness camp the Skate Buds Get Fit Stay Fit Fitness Camp. Skate Buds provides a fun and safe opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles through physical activity and exercise. Skate Buds allows me the ability to present the application of building muscular endurance, increasing flexibility, heart rate, and lung capacity with the fun of heel skating. It has been a great experience. Can’t wait to share this experience with you.
Here’s a question. What human functions or systems have you developed? Which of your human functions or systems have not been develop completely?
What is the Aaron Johnson Fit Club blog?

I have decided to write once per week. This will keep my thoughts fresh and thoughtful. Here is my second blog, What is the Aaron Johnson Fit Club blog?
As I mentioned in my first blog, I am an athlete, I have a master’s degree in Kinesiology, and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Part of Kinesiology is the study of the relationship between the body and the body’s movement, mainly through exercise and physical activity. If that’s not clear enough, Google it. Part of Sociology is defining social problems and creating solutions for social problems.
While developing a fitness program for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas with my product Skate Buds, Strap-on Heel Skates, a student asked a heart felt question. “Can we join a club to ride Skate Buds?” At the time, I thought it was a great idea because, up until then, I hadn’t thought of the idea. I already decided to name my 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization Skate Buds Get Fit Nation, but this “Club” was something I wanted to put my own name on. Thus Aaron Johnson Fit Club was created.
My last job, I was a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness in Dallas. Currently, I train independently under my own corporation Aaron Johnson Fit Club. I started this Club at the student’s request and because I understand my current position in life, health and fitness educator.
What you can expect from the Aaron Johnson Fit Club blog is contemporary news and research findings from the latest health and fitness research world. As a kinesiologist, I’ve spent countless hours reading research articles on health and fitness. As an athlete, I’ve spent countless hours testing some of those research finding for my own personal development. As a personal trainer, I’ve spent countless hours testing research findings on others and developing my own theories.
I will also spend a great deal of my blog time talking about Skate Buds the brand, and Skate Buds, strap-on heel skates the product. I feel this can be one of the answers to the childhood obesity epidemic, for a few reasons. First, kids love them. Second, it provides an fun and safe opportunity for kids and adults to receive physical activity daily. Third, from my own experience, the rush you get while heel skating at a few miles per hour is priceless.
My experiences and education allow me to effectively promote healthy lifestyles for kids and adults alike. I love what I do, when people listen. Aaron Johnson Fit Club blog will represent health and fitness through the eyes of an athlete and educator.
I would like to connect with other health and fitness educators. If interested, shoot me a comment, or email me at Aaron@LASkateBuds.com.
Thank you and have a productive day.
